THE SECOND ASSASSINATION OF A SON OF THE SOIL, THE“CAPITAINE FROSTON FELIX LUCIEN, DIED FOR HIS MOTHER COUNTRY BY HIS MOTHER COUNTRY

WHO CAN REMEMBER IN MARIGOT THE STREET NAME PLATE :

“RUE DU CAPITAINE FROSTON FELIX” ?

The street Between the Roman Catholic church and the “Rectorat” office in Marigot was named “Rue du Capitaine FROSTON Félix under Mayor Doctor Hubert PETIT administration of the Commune of Saint-Martin in memory of a son of the soil FROSTON Félix Lucien, born on April 9th, 1899 in Rambaud,Saint-Martin, Son of FROSTON Edouard and FROSTON-CARTY Hélène Mathilde.

Engaged in the French army, he achieved the grade of military Captain.

Unfortunately he was savagely assassinated on duty, in his military office in France (Toulon/VAR) on May 19th, 1936 , at the age 37 and was buried over there in France.

His family here in St-Martin were never informed on the true circumstances of his death or honored to see his remains.

There was a street name plate in his name on the wall of Henry Fleming building at the intersection of his street with “rue de Hollande” and there was another on the building now housing the “Rectorat” office

Both of these street name plates dedicated in his memory have been taken down for unknown reason since some 20 years ago.

He was the brother of the well known: Leon FROSTON , Edgard FROSTON, Armande Carmélie FROSTON(mother of our artist RUBY BUTE)

His grand parents : FROSTON Benjamin and FROSTON-BARRINGTON Susanne also born and died in Rambaud St-Martin

CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN THE DISAPPEARANCE OF THESE STREET NAME PLATES?

  1. As a matter of making good of our past deeds, I believe that we should not only restore the name of Captain Froston but we should find where he was buried to exume the body and have it reburied in an appropriate place on the island.
